Mission Statement: Our mission at P.S. 171Q the Peter G. Van Alst School is to promote excellence and provide our students with a quality education and rich academic experiences in cooperation with parents and community, so that they can move forward with knowledge,self-confidence and joy to take their rightful places in the world.
 
Instructional Focus: The staff and students of Peter G. Van Alst/P.S. 171Q will engage in rigorous instruction through language in all content areas as measured by elaboration and volume in writing, to prepare the children to have a strong voice in the world.  This will be provided to students by increasing our focus on language, listening and speaking standards.
 
School Partnerships: Our school participates with special program partnerships including Zone 126, NYC Kids Rise, City Harvest, Community Word Project, NY PopsED, Turtle Bay, Flushing Town Hall Dance Residency, Third Street Music , Parent Corp and Jacob Riis Settlement
 
Special School Programs:
